Report from the Campaign Trail - Adam Lang for Congress

10/25/08 - written to L.O. from Adam ......

As many of us on the group know, getting editorials published in the
Inquirer has been very tough for us. With the group, I have
personally had a variety of articles published in the Public Record,
Daily News and The Bulletin. The last time I ever got something
published (and it wasn't through the LO) in the Inquirer was a letter
to the editor I wrote in response to Dwight Evans saying we need a
Constitutional Convention ... and they stuck it in the Currents
section.

Now, for this election, they did something I felt was rather tacky and
unprofessional. At the end of August Pat Sweeney contacted my
campaign to set up an endorsement meeting with me and Fattah. We got
back to them and she said to wait for a writer to contact to do a
phone interview. A month goes by and I personally call her in the
beginning of October. She again reiterated to just wait for a writer
to call me. I left it at that.

Now, I saw all the hoopla about the Presidential endorsement they did,
so I performed a search for articles on Fattah. I came up with this:
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/32760859.html

"Neither ROBERT A. BRADY, 63, in the 1st District nor CHAKA FATTAH,
51, in the 2d District had a challenger in the spring primary, and
that's when their reelection, in effect, was decided in these lopsided
Democratic districts. Given the incumbents' tenure, their GOP
challengers on Nov. 4 - business consultant Mike Muhammad and computer
specialist Adam A. Lang, respectively - don't match up."

Now, I am not mad I wasn't endorsed by the Inquirer. I wasn't
expecting them to stick their neck out against Fattah. I DID expect
to at least be interviewed, as THEY approached ME. I figured they
would at least put on a show of giving me a fair shake. Even then, it
would help generate some name recognition.

But now, without even doing an interview, they have painted me as
someone not even worth considering for a vote, all because of "the
incumbent's tenure". It seems the Inquirer is now doing endorsements
based on how long someone is in office. They couldn't even endorse
him based on actual policies they agree with or support.

This, my friends, underlines why our messaging group is so important.
People need to know there are options and ideas out there.
